Mary Cavanaugh was a nerdy girl who attended Sherman High back in 1957. After the popular kids played a prank on her during the school dance, she disappeared and was never seen again and is believed to haunt the very woods she was last seen in.
History
Happy ending for Mary
Back in 1957, she attended Sherman High and was clearly seen as a nerdy unpopular girl. The day before the dance, she was asked out by a popular football player called Greg to go to the school ball. She was ecstatic, however he drives her to an abandoned farm rather than the school dance, where in the barn his friends cover her with mud and feathers, completely humiliating her. She fled and was recorded to have never been seen again.
However, this story has a happy ending. Just as when she reached the road, a greaser driving his motorcycle spotted her and offered her a lift. They then drove off together.
Appearance
Mary appears to be a short women with red/burgundy hair, a large nose and big black rim glasses. She dress a bit out of style but does wear a purle reckless and red hair clip and seems to be an easy target to make fun off by the other students.
When she goes on her "date" with Greg she wears a very ugly white and blue dress with dogs at the bottom of the dress.

Mary appears to be shy & gullible as she has a hard time talking to the "cool kid" Greg and believes he wants to go with her instead of his girlfriend. She continues to believe Greg even up to the point were he leads her into the barn in The Ballad of Scary Mary.

The Greaser is the unnamed biker that finds Mary in the woods and offers her a ride with a warm and inviting smile.

- Her appearance is strikingly similar to Velma Dinkley from the Scooby-Doo series.
- Her surname is taken from Christine Cavanaugh, the voice actress that portrayed Dexter in Dexter's Lab that retired from voice-acting in the early 2000s.
