Ilana to Lance[src]

Ilana is one of the two central characters of Sym-Bionic Titan. Ilana is the daughter of the King and sole heir to the throne of the planet Galaluna. She has always been a symbol of hope and happiness for the citizens of Galaluna, but it is this the very reason evil forces hunt for her on Earth; her very existence is enough to rally a rebellion against her people’s oppressors and for that she must be destroyed. Ironically, the very outspokenness and earnestness that made her a hero to her people, has placed her on the low rung of the social ladder at school as a persons unfailing positive attitude is considered uncool by the other students. Despite this, Ilana is determined to make the best of her new life and to discover all she can about her adopted home. Righteous and tenacious, Ilana won’t give up until a wrong is made right.

History

Shadows of Youth

Vlcsnap-00281

Ilana as a young child.

Ilana, the Crown Princess of Galaluna, is the King's only child and hence the sole successor to the Galalunian throne. Given this, her whole life has been devoted to grooming her to be the planet's future ruler. Despite the seemingly enormous burden of such a duty, Ilana grew up in a pleasant setting, which resulted in her effervescent and happy attitude.

She was present at Edward's funeral, as he was one of her father's boyhood acquaintances, and it was there that she first met Lance. Though she had no idea what tragic part he would player later in her life, she was anxious for the boy who had nowhere to go. Over the years, as Ilana grew, she was devoted to her duties as a princess and doing everything she could to help her people even in the smallest of ways, as a result, she was greatly respected by all who knew her and admired by the children who would even attempt to mimic their appearance to match her, specifically her hair, in an attempt to show her their admiration and gratitude for her and everything she had done for them.

Escape From Galaluna

At one point, General Modula led an attack on Galaluna with his Mutraddi forces. Although she was unaware of who lead the invasion, she did learn that some Galalunians were also involved as part of an organized coup. Despite her unwillingness to abide by her fathers decision to agree with Lance and have her leave Galaluna with him and Octus as her protectors, she ultimately agrees to do so as her father explains the duty that will fall onto her. Should he fail to stop the invasion, word of her survival would ignite hope among their people, leaving her with the sole duty to lead them upon her return. Although she was unaware of who the attacker was, she knew that her planet's forces were losing against him, as a result, Ilana remained in a state of constant worry and fear over never knowing if her father and her people would still be alive by the time she returned. As Ilana tries to assimilate to Earth and attempts to take on the citizens struggles into her own hands just as much as she would on her home planet, Ilana faces a drastic change as she realizes her voice is not taken as seriously on Earth as on Galaluna, now that she is without the respect her royal name brought her. Having realized that things cannot go her way as much as they did back on her home planet, Ilana learns to better understand herself the longer she is separated from her royal title, becoming willing to change certain parts of her way of life that heavily revolved around rules and her strict royal upbringing.

Personality

Ilana's personality is outspoken and earnest, her dedication to help others has made her a hero to her people, giving them hope in even the most dire of situations. Above all, she believes in following the rules in order to show her potential as a leader.

However, upon transitioning from Galaluna to Earth. Ilana begins facing the difficult realization that her personality is the reason no one at school is willing to befriend her or take her seriously, placing her on the low rung of the social ladder of the Earth high school, as her ambitious mindset is considered abnormal to her classmates. Additionally, her manner of speech is very high class and somewhat naive, which confuses many around her. Because she is used to being beloved and "getting whatever she wants", she shows jealousy toward people more popular than her, like Lance, and is confused by the other students' views of Lance's anti-social characteristics being what they respond to more positively.

Ilana has a very caring nature as she feels content whenever she sees other people happy, being willing to do what she can to help solve another individuals problem the moment she senses or sees they are in distress, refusing to back down until she is able to bring a smile onto their face. Ilana is more than capable of defending herself in order to not be taken advantage of or looked down on. She is committed to anything she puts her mind to, but is oftentimes unaware of when she over commits, resulting in her embarrassing herself and leaving her plans in failure.

Despite her years of interacting with others for diplomatic arrangements and royal affairs, Ilana realizes during her time on Earth that she has never had the opportunity to live and experience the normal aspects of a person's young life, such as learning to simply socialize with others to get to know them better and make friends, experiencing a first date and experiencing her first encounter with a boy who would feel romantically interested in her enough to compliment how pretty she was and bring her flowers.

Overtime, as she continues to spend time with Octus and Lance, she learns to ease up on her strict upbringing, being willing to bend the rules in case of emergencies and becoming inspired to experience the simple things in life, such as a first date, which she planned to experience the moment she returns to town near the end of "The Demon Within".

While on the battlefield, Ilana is described as righteous and tenacious and won’t give up until a wrong is made right. However, she is a little stubborn in accepting that things cannot always go her way as she simply does not wield the same experience others have, such as Lance and his experience as a soldier. Ilana tends to argue with Lance often as a result of their widely different views and personalities, however, just like Lance, she does learn to make amends for her behavior and is willing to learn how to better cooperate, with the help of Octus acting as the mediator to provide a voice of reason between the two so they can stop arguing and start learning how improve their teamwork through proper communication.

Ilana is afraid of disappointing those whom she perceives as people who abide by the rules and regulations for the greater good, such as teachers. Although she is typically courageous, Ilana is most fearful of losing her people and her father to the Mutraddi invasion, haunted over the possibility of returning home too late to help and discovering that everyone and everything has been obliterated. As she continues to view Octus and Lance as part of her family, she additionally becomes fearful over the possibility of losing the both of them if she is not careful.

As seen in the episode "Disenfranchised", it's also shown that Ilana has a love for sports. Being on the school soccer team, she is an impressive player as she is able to maneuver the ball perfectly fine and can even catch the ball between her feet to jump over her opponents to avoid them.

Lance and Ilana Dancing

Lance and Ilana became good friends during their mission.

As Ilana was forced from her homeland of Galaluna against her will, Lance was chosen by her father to be her bodyguard. Originally, Lance was extremely overprotective of Ilana due to her role in being the last hope of Galaluna. Should she die, there would be no one to lead their people if the King failed to stop the invasion. Ilana had quickly become frustrated and annoyed with Lance constantly assuming she needed to be protected from the simplest of things, and was appalled by his aggressive tactics in assuming even the most innocent of people, such as a merchant trying to provide her a sample, would require extreme measures to fend off. Although they were initially meant to take on the roles of brother and sister as part of their cover while on Earth, the two regularly exhibit habits and behaviors typical of siblings, while occasionally arguing with each as a result of their contrasting personalities (comparing Ilana's bubbly, honest nature against Lance's rebellious, trouble-making attitude). Octus is often times forced to break the two of them up when the situation demands so. She is a bit jealous of Lance due to his popularity in high school as she is unable to garner enough attention to unify the students for a common cause, no matter how much she tries. Despite their occasional bickering, Ilana appreciates Lance's efforts to make up for his behavior and mistakes, such as purchasing the globe she liked in an effort to make up for his behavior at the Mall. As time goes by, they become more understanding of each other and their struggles, resulting in them becoming better friends and adopting their sibling roles as they realize they now see each other as family rather than members on a mission. Despite his anti-social tendencies, Ilana regularly attempts to encourage Lance to take part in Earth customs in order to better understand the people and get him to step away from his constant duty as her bodyguard so he can better connect with others. In "Under The Three Moons", Ilana is devastated that she was unable to relive the harvest festival through the dance she planned to ease her homesickness, but is touched by Lance's attempts to step in and provide her the dance she desperately wished to relive with her father.

Ilana is described to be the "heart" of the group, while Lance is described as the "body".

Octus

Ilana had originally viewed Octus as an advanced robot her father provided to help her and Lance for their survival. However, after spending so much time with him, Ilana gradually understands and accepts that Octus is not just some robot, he is a living being with emotions who is trying to understand the world and the people around him. Aside from being her caretaker and protector, Octus had additionally become a very important part of Ilana's life, serving not just as a father figure to help her and Lance learn to get along, but also a friend and a brother whom she and Lance could trust and confide in. While she is described as the "heart" of the group and Lance the "body", Octus is the "mind", who can help provide a more intellectually advanced opinion and logical sense to their situations. Ilana appreciates knowing Octus is willing to support her and her attempts to organize special events, even sharing excitement for similar things as he is more than willing to take part in activities with other students to learn how to better socialize with them. The two of them share similar interest such as enjoying the Earth television show "High School Heights". Although she is often times annoyed with Octus's reasoning to side with Lance and is unaware of the shared secrecy between them about Lance's activity as the phantom ninja, Ilana is more than eager to show as much support as she can provide to their new found interests, provided it is not illegal. Unlike Lance, she and Octus are considered "doofus's" by the student body for being odd and different, but this does not stop them from being more than willing to stand up for themselves so as to not be taken advantage of. Often times, Ilana is confused by the things Octus says, such as when he explains to her why he gets Lance is considered popular and attractive and finds humor in tricking the under cover soldier Steve, into a girls bathroom to evade him. Ilana is terrified over the thought of losing Octus as she no longer sees him as just a robot doing his job to protect her, but instead as a beloved member of her family, along with Lance.

In "A Family Crisis", Ilana tries to keep Octus as far away from the mysterious creature in the station as she is aware that Octus will die if the creature drains all his energy. After Ilana watches in horror as the creature drains Octus, she is devastated to learn that Octus is unable to be revived. Ilana falls into a state of depression after Octus is "killed", but tries to remain hopeful there is a way to bring him back somehow as she and Lance try to make sense of his machinery while also going on the run to evade any threats. In "A New Beginning", Ilana is in disbelief to see that Octus has suddenly come to her and Lance's side, but is overjoyed knowing he was able to be revived thanks to the help of G3.

The King

The King of Galaluna is Ilana's father. Ilana holds her father in high regards and admires him for being a kind and compassionate king to their people. She loves her father very much and misses him greatly upon realizing she would need to leave him behind to hide on Earth. Before fleeing from Galaluna, Ilana refused to leave if it meant that her father couldn't come with her, but Ilana eventually decided to abide by her fathers request after he tells her she had to leave in order for Galaluna to have hope, because if he should fail in stopping the invasion, it would be left to her to lead their people. Ilana had spent much of her life learning to upholding her duties as the princess in order to be as kind and considerate as her father. However, despite understanding it is within his daughters nature to help others, Ilana is unaware that her father is growing a bit tired of the same story where she helps retrieve a child's pet from a well. Ilana is terrified of losing her father and is regularly haunted over never knowing if her father is truly dead or alive. Ilana is terrified of losing her father and is regularly haunted over not knowing whether he is alive of dead. In her desperate attempts to relive her time with him and ease her homesickness, Ilana plans the entire home coming dance to look as identical to the harvest festival on Galaluna as she can make it, all so she could relive their father daughter dance.

Ilana's mother

It is unknown what kind of relationship Ilana has/had with her mother because she is never confirmed to be seen or mentioned in the series. She is never talked about or mentioned by Ilana, her father, or anyone, implying that something had happened to her mother that resulted in her no longer being with them.

Jason

A fellow classmate she met during the Scary Mary party in the Ballad of Scary Mary. Ilana immediately takes note of his goofy and unsuccessful attempts to open up a bottle and is intrigued enough to approach him at the party to talk to. Despite his failed attempts to act cool, Ilana finds his klutzyness charming as it makes her smile. Upon realizing Jason has a strong interest in astronomy, the two of them spend time together alone on the roof of the barn, where Jason tells her about the stars. Ilana seems to enjoy his company as she spent most of her time with him during the party. However, having never had the opportunity to socialize with another individual, without escorts, without it having to do with diplomatic matters and without it having to do with any serious or royal affairs, Ilana faces a momentary awkwardness with Jason as she has never managed to maintain a proper connection with another person at school since her arrival. After Jason returns with her drink, Ilana no longer sees him for the remainder of the night, implying he really did have to go home and could not stay at the party longer than a little past 9pm like Ilana believed. The next day, Ilana begins walking with him to class and joins a soccer team with him later in the season. It is unknown if she is aware of his crush on her, but she sees him as a good hearted person none the less and the first and only friend she has succeeded in connecting with. Ilana later goes with him to the Homecoming Dance, but ended up having to leave him because she had to fight another creature.

Solomon

The leader of the G3. Ilana officially met Solomon not long after he captured her and Lance in "The Fortress of Deception". However, unbeknownst to her, he had attempted to learn more about them by pretending to be a prisoner named "Kane". Despite Lance's disapproval, Ilana attempts to help "Kane" escape and later relies on him to help her and Lance find an escape, as he is the only one who knows the fortress they are currently trapped in. Although Ilana eventually feels hesitant to continue relying on him, "Kane" manages to obtain a little more of her trust by providing her and Lance their watches to transform, only for her to realize not long after that it was just a ploy to get them to reveal how they form titan. Despite their rough first impression of each other, Ilana was not yet able to consider him a threat as she realizes his only intention was to obtain answers rather than destroy them. Despite not yet knowing much about him, she was more than willing to help him upon hearing his distress call in "A Family Crisis" as she believed it would be a good opportunity to change his perspective of them and help him realize they are not an enemy. Ilana later learns to trust Solomon more as she notes his determination to help them as much as possible after Octus had been drained by the mysterious creature. In "A New Beginning", Ilana is now willing to see Solomon as an ally after the G3 succeeds in reviving Octus.

Kristin

A goth girl from Sherman High school. Although Ilana and Kristin have yet to interact, Ilana has taken note of Lance's interest in Kristin when she catches him staring at her for a prolonged period of time at the mall, up until she is no longer within view. Understanding he is interested in Kristin but does not have the nerve to ask her out to the home coming dance, she teases him about not being able to find a date.

Kimmy Mysner

A cheerleader from Sherman High school. Ilana had initially assumed Kimmy would be a good rounded person who was dedicated to her schools peers, this was mainly because Ilana had assumed that being a cheerleader meant being someone who was a devoted spirit leader dedicated to friendships, spirit, and giving back to the community, all things which she believed meant Kimmy was just like her. However, the more Ilana notices Kimmy's attempts to sabotage her tryout and insults her, the more she considers Kimmy to be a selfish and terrible person who she feels sorry for. Despite their rough first impression of each other, Ilana is willing to believe she left some influence on Kimmy as she was willing to set aside her ego to help her reach the PA room. After Octus helps Kimmy realize her true intellectual potential, Ilana notes that Kimmy had since changed her ways, but was shocked to learn that Kimmy had fallen in love with Octus and had since then formed a romantic relationship with him. She is at first willing to allow the relationship to continue, but had grown concerned upon assuming that Octus had no real feelings for Kimmy. Despite her concerns over Kimmy potentially having her heart broken over being with someone that didn't really love her, Ilana realizes and accepts that Octus is a living being of his own and his feelings for Kimmy are real and genuine. As Kimmy continues to spend time with them, Ilana is willing to try her take on fashion for the home coming dance, but ends up not being very fond of it.

Todd and Maribel

The only other two members of the home coming committee that Ilana works with to plan the homecoming dance. Ilana is happy the two ultimately decide to appoint her as head of the committee and accept her harvest festival theme idea for the dances. Unlike most of the students, Todd and Maribel are kind enough to listen to her and work with her. When Ilana discovers Lance is unable to find a date for the dance, she immediately suggests Maribel as she is the only person she is aware of that hasn't had a chance to find a date. Later, as Ilana is forced to skip the dance to fight off an Alien, Maribel tries to enjoy the dance along with Jason as they realize Ilana and Lance will likely be unable to make it back, while Todd is left to manage the dance on his own but is shown to have no problem in doing so. It is unknown if Maribel and Todd were willing to befriend Ilana after the dance was finished.

Barbara

A woman from their block who regularly attempts to interact with them. While Lance and Octus find Barbara problematic due to her nosy personality, Ilana considers her a perfect example of what a normal Earthling is and should be an prime example of what they should all be like in order to better blend in with the other Earthlings. Ilana likes Barbara's friendly and joyful personality, as well as her willingness to inform her about the town mall.

Tashy 497(Tarax, Mushy, 497)

A small docile alien. Before its official name, Ilana names it Mushy. Ilana takes a strong interest in the small alien the moment she discovers it resided within the ship they stopped from crashing. Despite Lance and Octus's protest, Ilana quickly bonds with the small creature and is unable to consider it a threat as it was to cute to be a monster. After discovering its like of marshmallows, Ilana names it Mushy for its sweet personality and squishy body. The next morning, Ilana bickers with Lance over what the small aliens name should be and who has the right to keep him. However, despite accepting it as the new member of their family, Ilana is devastated to learn that Mushy is in fact a bomb sent to by the Mutraddi in an attempt to destroy the Earth upon its crash, but is doomed to die none the less after being saved, as the Earths environment had left it sick. Although Ilana is hesitant to let Mushy die and pleads with Octus to find a way to save his life, she ultimately makes the heart wrenching choice to allow Mushy to die in space so as to not endanger the Earth. As she continues to mourn the death of Mushy, Octus reveals to her and Lance that their little companion had become a new cosmic formation after dying in space. As a scientist permits the three of them to name the new formation, Ilana immediately and excitedly says it should be Mushy. But after consoling Lance and Octus, she agrees to name him Tashi 497, a combination of all their names.

Disenfranchised Band

A small band comprised of three members. Although Ilana does not interact with them, she immediately takes note of their involvement with Lance during lunch period at school. Ilana is eager to encourage Lance to continue in his new found interest in music with the band, even being willing to avoid informing him of Steve, the soldier sent to school to spy on them, so as to not ruin Lance's chances of making friends with the group. When she learns that the band had unanimously decided to kick lance out of the band, she suggest forming a band of their own but is denied.

Julius Steel

A high-ranking General in charge of many of the U.S. armed forces. Although Ilana understands that Steel is in charge of very dangerous forces, she is willing to take the risk of breaking into his base to obtain energy from the core of his robot if it means there is a chance to revive Octus. Ilana is appalled by Steels brute and violent methods as well as his unwillingness to reason. Despite her and Lance's attempts to stop his attack on the G3, Ilana realizes steel will not hesitate to attack them, as well as other innocent lives, in pursuit of his goals. Ilana later helps save his life as Titan but learns to be more cautious about him in the future.

Corus

When in trouble, Ilana can activate the Corus Armor System, an exoskeleton that gives various skills of manipulating energy, such as lasers, repulsor beams, and electrostatic shields. It is shown that Ilana fights only fairly well while in this armor. Since she is limited to shooting lasers and other plasma like attributes, she cannot simultaneously incorporate her combat skills into her suit as much as the Manus armor does.

The Sym-Bionic Titan

When the situation demands it, Ilana can combine her powers with those of Lance and Octus to create a more powerful fighting machine, The Sym-Bionic Titan. She is the 'heart' of the Sym-Bionic Titan.

Combat and Skills

As seen, Ilana is known to have some sense of fighting skills. In episode The Fortress of Deception, she is seen running towards a G3 solider, kneeing him in the stomach, and elbowing him straight into his back; causing him to slam to the ground. Other than some fighting skills, she appears to have a great skill in athletics. Being able to do flips and tumbles throughout the air. This also have some connection to her cheer leading tryouts, being an amazing gymnast. It's also evident that Ilana is clearly very agile since she enjoys playing soccer.
